Because Riverview has adopted the "Pirate" as our district-wide mascot, we developed a Mission Statement that correlates to the Pirate Theme..."Academics, Responsibility, Respect, Growth, Honor," and we celebrate that theme with a great big "Pirate ARRGH!" The Mission Statement represents our commitment to purposeful focus on academics, along with the intent to help children develop talents, intellect, strong character, virtues and high morals. At Memorial, we recite the Mission Statement together daily, along with our Pledge of Allegiance and the Memorial Elementary Student Pledge, all of which are led by students in Grades 1-5, using the the school's PA system.
Every Memorial student soon learns that "Pirate Pride" is something that we never hide, and all students are encouraged to make choices daily that represent their understanding of and devotion to ARRGH, not only in school, but at home and everywhere they go. We believe that "The Pirate Way" is a "treasured" map to success for all members of the Riverview Community, and here in our schools, we teach students to to embrace and uphold the meaning of ARRGH every day in their pursuit of success, in school and out.
The Memorial School Student Pledge:
"Today, I will do my best to be the best.
I will listen; I will follow directions; I will be honest;
I will respect the rights of others.
I can learn....I will learn!"
Now that you know the Mission Statement that we teach to our children, please read the more formal Mission Statement that we, as a staff and educational community embrace as we work toward standards of excellence in our district and in our school:
"Our mission at Riverview Community School District is to successfully educate all students so that they will be capable of functioning in society, earning an income, and becoming tomorrow's leaders and responsible adults by embracing the following principles:
"Academics, Responsibility, Respect, Growth, Honor--- ARRGH!"
